As a vegetarian I'm not offended by Pak 'n' Save's "Meat Week" advertisement (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=10795209) which I haven't seen.

Will the SHtF, finally, or will this be quietly covered up like all the other uncomfortable truths? A report from Lt. Col. Daniel E. Davis of the U.S. Army, entitled "Truth, Lies and Afghanistan: How military leaders have let us down" (where "us" is the U.S. Armed forces I guess) documents a large and widening gap between the optimistic statements of military leaders, and the truth on the ground in Afghanistan. The above linked essay is a short introduction.

In the Herald there have been a couple of articles recently about the controversy over removing a two-second clip of a sports star father, Piri Weepu, bottle-feeding his infant, from an anti-smoking advertisement. The La Leche League, when asked about the original advert, said that it sent mixed messages and undermined the message that breast is best.

Today's Herald online has the article Olympian weighs in on feeding dispute. This is my response.

Welcome back. Intentional blackout is over but I saw this on my Twitter feed and it's a good and practical idea which undermines SOPA, protests it in a different form, and makes some internet users a little more knowledgable. Further to my November posts about my insurance company, I have done some research about the options in NZ. The following, fyi, are my observations:

The Davis-Besse nuclear power plant has apparently been economical with the truth when it reported cracking in the concrete shield building to the public. Reports to the Nuclear Regulatory Committee (NRC) apparently detail more extensive and more serious cracking than was publicised.

How to care deeply and be fully open, without being attached? How to fight(?) for what I think is right(?), without any violence? How to take action, but rest in choiceless awareness? Nietzschean powerful individual (if not the übermensch, at least the bridge?), or Taoist No-thing? Ego, or no ego? Hard work, or effortlessness? Dive in, or drop out? Solitude or social animal?
